About the Opportunity
An established and growing independent accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join its professional team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of a varied audit portfolio, work closely with senior leadership, and play a key role in the continued development of the firm's audit offering.
The successful candidate will manage audit engagements from planning through to completion, build strong client relationships, and support the development of junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit & Client Management
- Manage a portfolio of audit clients across a range of industries and sectors.
- Lead audit assignments from planning through to completion.
- Review audit files, working papers, and financial statements for technical accuracy and compliance.
- Assist with more complex assignments, including group audits and consolidated financial statements.
- Ensure audits are delivered on time and within budget.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Present audit findings, recommendations, and technical advice to clients and senior management.
- Provide guidance on accounting, auditing, and regulatory matters in line with current UK standards.
- Support clients with statutory accounts and related compliance requirements.
Team Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and mentor audit staff at various levels.
- Review work and provide coaching, feedback, and technical support.
- Assist with training and professional development initiatives.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment.
Technical & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of auditing, accounting, and industry developments.
- Support quality assurance reviews and regulatory inspections where required.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities to expand services within the existing client base.
- Assist with proposals and quotations for prospective clients.
- Contribute to the firm's continued growth through exceptional client service and relationship management.
About You Qualifications
- ACA or ACCA qualified.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
Experience & Technical Skills
- Experience managing statutory audits for SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
- Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, FRS 102, and International Standards on Auditing (UK).
- IFRS knowledge advantageous.
- Experience with group audits and consolidated accounts desirable.
- Proficient in audit software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
